HOTEL FAVE GRAHA

The hotel involved the refurbishment of an existing building previously used as shophouses with land area of 507m2. The two shophouses converted into hotel with 82 rooms by adding the building level to 8 floors. The floor plan is made as effectively as possible to maximize the number of rooms. In the pursuit of sustainable development, the construction process bypassing the wasteful process of demolition and reconstruction, making adaptive reuse of the building.

To ensure that the existing building structure can bear the load required in the hotel building regulations, there are several tests that need to be carried out, such as hammer and ultrasonic test. The hammer test measures the rebound of a spring-loaded mass impacting against the surface of a concrete. Its rebound is dependent on the hardness of the concrete and can be used to determine the concrete’s compressive strength. Moreover, ultrasonic testing is done to measure the thickness of the steel using high-frequency sound waves. The process of refurbishment is more complicated than building new construction properties.
